Daveta Rugby Press Release
The Daveta Rugby Club will be departing Fiji’s shores on our annual Australasian Tour. The team will compete in the UON Central Central Coast 7s in Australia and then travel to Singapore for a week long camp before attempting to regain our title at the Singapore Cricket Club 7s.
The team has been in camp in Sigatoka for the last week in preparation for the tour and we will finalise our preparations before departing for Australia on Wednesday.
The team has been selected with a mix of experience and youth. Along with current national players and Daveta regulars Apisai Domolailai, Emosi Mulevori and Jerry Tuwai we will be joined by the national captain Osea Kolinisau. It will be honour to have Osea touring with the team and we are hoping to use his experience to assist in the development of our less experienced squad members, some of whom will be touring for the first time.
Senior Nadroga players Sokonaia Kalou and Tuiba Batiratu will be joined by Pio Mua, Akariva Nabati and Kilioni Sisiwa for whom this will be there first tour. In addition we will also be joined by Yamacia trio Sevuloni Mocenacagi, Jone Waqaliva and Peniasi Lavava.
For the Singapore 7s we will be joined by Jasa Veremalua who will be in Australia with the Hideaway Hurricanes.
We are really looking forward to the tour and know that both tournaments will be a huge test for us. The Central Coast has certainly earned a reputation as the toughest 7s tournament outside the world series which is why we enjoy competing at it so much. It is a great opportunity for the players to test themselves at an extremely high standard. The Singapore 7s is also a very high quality tournament and we are expecting some very good teams from England, France, Australia and New Zealand. It is also the home tournament of our primary sponsors so we are very keen to impress there.
For our national reps it is a chance for them to prepare for the 2016/17 World Series and for our younger players it is their chance to prove they have what it takes to make it at the next level. For these younger players to be on tour with the likes of Osea Kolinisau, and Apisai Domolailai is a huge opportunity and hopefully they will take it with both hands and set themselves up to be the next generation of Fiji Rugby.
