Former Central Coast Sevens Champions Northern Suburbs are set return to the tournament with a reinvigorated Sevens program.
The Sydney Premier Club took out the 2013 Central Coast Sevens title in fine style defeating Fijian powerhouse Redrock in the cup final to claim the prestigious crown.
Norths General Manager Adam Fulepp said “It is with great excitement that Norths Rugby will be returning to the Central Coast Sevens arena after last claiming the title in 2013. During that same year the Shoremen also took out the Bowral 7s, Sydney 7s and Byron 7s. After a year and half hiatus of the Shoremen 7s program, the club is excited to be reinvigorating the program with the sport growing from strength to strength every year, it is vital that we implement the best program possible for our players. The Shoremen have had a number of Australian 7s representatives over the past few years which include 4 of the current squad – Sam Myers, Cam Clark, John Porch & Jesse Parahi and we look forward to continuing that trend starting at the Central Coast Sevens”.
UON Central Central Coast Sevens Tournament Director Craig Morgan expressed his delight at the return of the Shoremen saying “we are pleased to welcome back Norths Rugby who were magnificent in claiming the cup title in 2013 and we congratulate the club on emvracing Sevens and recreating their Sevens program. We see it crucial to the future success of the game and the national program in Australia that our premier clubs continue to embrace Sevens and offer the Sevens pathway to their players. We want our game to be strong and healthy and for that to occur we need to see clubs such as Norths have the opportunity to compete in the Sevens format. This will be a great test for the club coming up against some of the best teams in the world, there is no better stage for domestic players to push their claims for higher honours than competing at the Central Coast Sevens”.
The UON Central Coast Sevens kicks off Friday 21st October with youth boys & girls under 17s tournament before all the action of the international men’s and women’s tournaments take place on Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd October 2016.
