The Gordon Highlanders U17s Boys Team have been confirmed as the latest team to contact the UON Central Coast Sevens under 17s youth boys tournament.
The side are gaining solid sevens experience with the club having taken a young side to the open age Crescent Head 7s where the team made the Cup Semi Finals in the men’s division.
Head Coach David Telfer said “what we are hoping to achieve from this tournament is to provide the opportunities for Gordon players to progress along the 7s pathway from the Juniors all the way to the Seniors. Creating a 7s program at Gordon is something I have been trying to do and this is the first step for our club. The level of the competition I have no doubt will be exceptional with sides coming over from Fiji as well as NSW rep sides participating. This gives us the motivation to prepare to ensure we meet the standards of the competition and represent our club with pride”.
Gordon join a strong list of teams that currently includes defending champions ACT Brumbies, NSW Waratahs 7s, Gospel High School (Fiji), Manly Marlins, Hunter Sports High, Penrith RSL, Western Sydney 7s Academy with four positions to be confirmed after the youth tournament was expanded from an 8 team event to a 12 team format.
The tournament is utilised by state and national high performance units as a talent identification event with a great opportunity for teams and individual players to experience high level sevens competition under the eye of selectors.
