A selection of the best local Central Coast youth girls rugby sevens players are set to be selected to take part in the UON Central Coast Sevens Youth Tournament being held Friday 21st October to kick off the weekends international rugby sevens extravaganza.
The local side will give Central Coast girls the opportunity to feature in front of New South Wales Sevens coaching staff who will be casting an eye over the talent with a view to ensuring the strongest possible NSW side to contest Novembers national championship.
Tournament Director Craig Morgan said “we welcome the inclusion of the Central Coast Youth Girls Team. This is a magnificent opportunity for the girls to not only compete in much needed youth competition but to also have the chance to impress selectors and coaching staff from the NSW 7s program. This opportunity is in the girls own backyard right here on the Central Coast and it is important that local girls get these opportunities to play locally and we are proud to facilitate that chance here on the Coast in a premier tournament environment”.
The Central Coast has a number of highly successful female sevens players most notably Tournament Ambassador Cobie-Jane Morgan the former National 7s representative and current Wallaroos player. Jayme Fressard is another Central Coast local who has tasted recent success in sevens winning gold in the Youth Olympics and drafted into the Australian National 7s program.
The UON Central Coast Sevens will kick off Friday 21st October with youth boys and girls tournaments before the weekends international men’s and women’s events where some of the best teams in the world will converge on the Central Coast to contest what has been labeled a World Class tournament by some of the biggest names in the sport.
