A formidable New Zealand Women’s 7s Development side has been announced for the 2015 UON Central Coast Sevens Kinesio Cup competition.
The New Zealand Development team will feature several of New Zealand’s experienced top guns, players returning from injury and development players in need of valuable game time.
The squad will be out to impress ahead of selection for the New Zealand Women’s Sevens team for the first tournament of the new HSBC Sevens World Series in Dubai in December and with an eye on Olympic selection later next year when sevens debuts in Rio de Janeiro in August 2016.
New Zealand will pose an intimidating threat to all before them with a wealth of talent and depth to draw from.
The team for the tournament is as follows (subject to change):
- Kelly Brazier (Bay of Plenty)
- Gayle Broughton (Taranaki)
- Sarah Goss (Manawatu)
- Lavinia Gould (Bay of Plenty)
- Lesley Ketu (Waikato)
- Huriana Manuel (Auckland)
- Morgan Morrow (Waikato)
- Shiray Tane (Hawkes Bay)
- Alexis Tapsell (Bay of Plenty)
- Ruby Tui (Canterbury)
- Stacey Waaka (Waikato)
- Katarina Whata-Simpkins (Wellington)
Tournament Director Craig Morgan said “New Zealand Rugby has named an impressive outfit, it is an exciting team certainly capable of challenging for the title, although a development team it is one with plenty of firepower and we are looking forward to seeing the team hit the pitch in a few weeks time”.
The Kinesio Cup is regarded as one of the world’s leading invitational women’s tournaments featuring some of the best teams and players in the world.
The Central Coast Sevens will feature teams from Australia, New Zealand, Canada, USA, Japan, Fiji, Germany & Hong Kong over the weekend of 24th & 25th October.
