Olympic Bronze Medallists the Canada Maple Leafs Women’s 7s team have been announced as returning to the 2017 UON Central Coast Sevens this October.
The Maple Leafs return after a hiatus in 2016 after focusing their attention on the Rio Olympic Games where the team won the Bronze Medal.
The National side have contested the Central Coast event on two occasions claiming the title in 2014 and making the semi-finals in 2015.
Canada are a powerhouse of women’s 7s having recently claimed the title of the Sydney leg of the women’s world-series. This year the national side will be joined by the Maple Leafs youth girls team who will contest the tournaments under 17’s youth girls tournament.
Tournament Director Craig Morgan is excited by the return of the Maple Leafs “we are very proud to announce the return of the Maple Leafs, we appreciate in the Olympic year that the dynamics change and we are honoured that the Canadians think highly enough of the tournament to return. The side are world class, they are the Olympic Bronze Medallists and extremely popular. The addition of the Maple Leafs youth girls team adds further excitement to our youth tournament and will no doubt make the opportunity for our domestic youth girls and other international sides that much more enticing.
The UON Central Coast Sevens will kick off Friday 27th October with a youth boys and girls tournament followed by a weekend of International Sevens action with the men’s and women’s tournaments taking place Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th October 2017.
Tickets to the tournament are available at www.centralcoastsevens.com.au
