Seven of Australia’s Women’s Olympic Rugby Sevens Gold Medallists have been named across two teams to compete at this weekend’s UON Central Coast Sevens.
The Aussie Pearls Gold squad will feature four of the Olympic Champions in National Co-Captain Shannon Parry, Charlotte Caslick, Emma Tonegato and Chloe Dalton whilst the Aussie Pearls Green team will run out National Co-Captain Sharni Williams, Alicia Quirk and Emilee Cherry.
The Aussie Pearls famously won the Gold Medal at the Rio Olympic Games capturing the heart of the nation in the process.
After a short, well-earned break the national program is now in full preparation for the commencement of the 2016/17 Women’s Sevens World Series with the Aussie Pearls teams ready to shake off any Olympic celebrations at the Central Coast Sevens.
By mixing the two teams with a blend of youth and experience the national program stands to gain as the up and coming players seek to establish themselves and earn a place in the world-series side playing alongside the Olympic champions and regular national program players. It will see mate potentially go against mate at some stage of the tournament building what would be an epic encounter with the two sides wanting to secure not only the tournament championship but bragging rights over their national team mates.
